Pastor: Father Martin McGuill703 356 1255 Father McGuill was born in Refugio, Texas and was ordained for the Diocese of Corpus Christi in 1964. He graduated from Assumption Seminary, San Antonio, and received his divinity degree at Saint Francis Seminary, Milwaukee. He was the first chaplain of the Corpus Christi State Supported Living Center of the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS). He received a master’s degree in religious education at Loyola University, Chicago; a master’s degree in church administration from The Catholic University of America as well as a licentiate in canon law from the same university. Father McGuill then earned a doctorate degree in canon law, magna cum laude, from The Pontifical University of Saint Thomas (Angelicum), Rome. After incardination here, Father McGuill served as Adjutant Judicial Vicar in the Tribunal of the Diocese of Arlington until 1986 and is a judge of the Interdiocesan Tribunal of the Province of Baltimore. He was pastor of Saint Rita Parish, Alexandria, from 1986 until 1992 when he came to Saint Luke. He retired from the United States Air Force as a colonel and is currently the USAF Catholic Chaplain at Arlington National Cemetery. Father McGuill traces his roots to early settlers in the Republic of Texas. His father was a member of a pioneer Irish South Texas family, and his mother a direct descendant of Juan Curbelo, one of the Canary Islanders who founded the first civil, municipal government in Texas and the San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio. From the Republic of Texas to our Commonwealth, for 18 years the Padre has made these non-tatterdemalion 20 acres into a real Home Sweet Home. As Minister of Music and Liturgy, Dr. Skevington coordinates all musical activities at Saint Luke and performs a full range of sacred organ music that is an integral part of the liturgy. Under Paul’s direction, the Adult and Festival Choirs have become strong, highly regarded musical entities that provide a glorious, spiritual setting for liturgical celebrations. He has been responsible for establishing a talented core of cantors who lead the singing of the gathered assemblies. Dr. Skevington oversees the coordination of all liturgical ministries including the acolytes, usher/greeters, extraordinary ministers of the Holy Communion and lectors. He assists families at time of need at funerals, helping them select music and coordinate funeral plans. Paul works closely with couples planning marriage, and has developed a wedding music sampler CD to assist them in their musical selections. He set up and coordinated the Rite of Christian Initiation process at Saint Luke, bringing close to 100 adults into the Catholic Church. In addition, Paul initiated the revision of the Saint Luke web site and assisted in the development of the long range information technology plans at the church. Paul spearheaded the effort to secure the purchase of the highly acclaimed Saint Luke Pipe Organ, a 61-rank, mechanical-action instrument built by Steiner-Reck Organbuilders and considered to be the finest in Northern Virginia. Under Paul's direction, the Music in McLean Concert Series at Saint Luke Church has become a popular venue for musical events, presenting concerts with some of the area's finest choral, ensemble, and orchestral groups. Saint Luke Church has also become renowned as a superior site for recordings for many of the talented artists, choruses, and orchestras in the Washington, D.C. area, more than 30 commercial CDs recorded in the space and many more in the planning stages. In addition, Dr. Skevington maintains an active performing schedule. He appears regularly at The John F. Dr. Skevington is past dean of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), past chairperson for the National Association of Pastoral Musicians' (NPM) Section for Organists, past chair of the Orlando Chapter of NPM and chairperson of the 1982 Orlando NPM Convention. Parish Business Manager: Sandy Wallenhorst703 356 1255 Facsimile: 703 442 0848 swallenhorst@saintlukemclean.org Sandy Wallenhorst is the heartbeat of the parish staff. Although she grew up in West Virginia, she was actually born in New York. She holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Wheeling Jesuit University and has done graduate work in education and computer science at the University of Virginia and George Mason University. Sandy’s love of math and computers led her to be a computer programmer/analyst with the government, computer studies instructor at Saint Luke School and finally to her present position as Parish Finance Manager which she has held for almost 20 years. Not only does Sandy manage the parish finances, which is an encompassing job in itself, she is also our Director of Human Resources. But above all, Sandy is the good listener in whom we all confide. She and her husband Bill have been parishioners since 1982 and with a smile are often referred to as Beauty and the Best. They have four grown children and recently welcomed a granddaughter, Christa, to the family. When Sandy is not keeping up with life in the parish’s epicentre, she enjoys reading, gardening, dancing, hiking, biking and most of all being with Christa. Parish Secretary: Roni Gina Thomas703 356 1255 Facsimile: 703 442 0848 parishoffice@saintlukemclean.org Roni Gina Thomas is enjoying her ministry of presence and is looking forward to her future classes at NOVA. Parish Maintenance Manager: Roberto Rocobado703 356 4619 rrocabado@saintlukemclean.org He’s the man to go to! Yes, what you see so beautiful and welcoming on the campus of Saint Luke comes from the hard work and dedication of Roberto and his talented maintenance team. In fact, in a recent diocesan inspection report, Saint Luke was commended for being “…one of the best, if not the best, maintained facility in the diocese.” A member of our staff since 1987, he took the manager position in 1995 and has never stopped running and giving. A native of Bolivia, Roberto is now a proud citizen of the USA. Roberto’s wife, Doris, and his two children, Adrianna and Brian, share Roberto with us…and they go to him, too!
