Artistic Director of Music in McLean - Paul Skevington

Paul Skevington is in his 28th year as the Minister of Music and Liturgy at Saint Luke Catholic Church in McLean, Virginia. He directed the project to secure the 61-rank Steiner-Reck mechanical-action pipe organ, installed in the church in 1998. Paul has developed a highly acclaimed, well-rounded sacred music program with the 40 voice Festival Choir at the center of musical activities. In 2011, the choir sang at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and in 2014 at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Under his direction, Saint Luke has become renowned as a superior site for concerts, with the Saint Luke Music in McLean concert series hosting 18 musical events per year.
Known for his artistic skill in supporting choral voices, he has accompanied many of the major choruses in the Washington, D.C. area at venues such as The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Music Center at Strathmore, the Washington National Cathedral, and the National Presbyterian Church. As a soloist, Paul has been a featured artist for the American Guild of Organists and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. He recently played a solo performance on the new Rubenstein Family Organ at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall as part of the Organ Postlude Series following the National Symphony Orchestra Concerts. He has recorded five compact discs under the Naxos, Summit, and Gothic labels, including the internationally released Organ Concertos by Joseph Rheinberger.
Paul holds degrees in organ performance from Indiana, and a doctorate degree in liturgical music from The Catholic. He has held the positions of Assistant in Liturgical Music at The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C. and Summer Chapel Organist at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart Chapel at Notre Dame.
